Rachael Boyce – Director/Clinical Manager

Rachael has been qualified since 1994 and has a well rounded background in physiotherapy having worked in New Zealand and overseas, having worked with the British Army and various sports teams; and in the last decade specialising in Occupational Health and Vocational work. Rachael has completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine, a Certificate in Spinal Manipulation and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health. She is also a Pilates Instructor, is trained in acupuncture and dry needling and enjoys working with complex conditions.

Peter Boyce – Director/Financial Manager/IT

Pete’s focus is to keep Active Health at the forefront of delivering services and processes that utilize technology. Pete is responsible for company finances, administration, advertising/marketing and our IT maintenance and development.  Pete has a Diploma in Computer Science, a strong administration background and has managed several companies.

Lucy Finch – Team Leader & Senior Physiotherapist/Advanced Pilates Instructor

Lucy is an English trained physio with double degrees in Physiotherapy and Zoology. Lucy has been working at the Active Health since 2009 and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine. She is also trained in  McKenzie spinal treatment, Advanced Pilates and Dry Needling.  Lucy is our team Leader with proven abilities to work with patients over a wide range of issues. She is also a valuable member of our mentoring team for our staff physios.

Melissa Edwards – Senior Physiotherapist

Melissa is a New Zealand trained physiotherapist, graduating in 2010. She has experience in treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries including sports injuries, spinal, work injuries and doing post-operative rehabilitation. Melissa has an excellent patient rapport and is able to communicate well with patients and third parties to work to achieve best results for the patient.  Melissa has skills in dry needling and is our “Pain Champion” having completed regular professional development in this area.

Rebecca Crawford – Senior Physiotherapist

Rebecca is one of our senior physiotherapists who has been working at Active Health since she graduated in 2013. She is an avid sports person and has worked with several rugby teams. She is currently studing for her Post-graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine and is skilled in treatment and exercise rehabilitation from sports and other musculoskeletal injuries.

Lowell Quadros  – Staff Physiotherapist

Lowell joins us after moving from Dunedin in 2020. Lowell’s skills include orthopedic and sports physiotherapy, multidisciplinary healthcare, community based rehabilitation and utilizing a holistic approach to patient management.

Heather De Gouw – Staff Physiotherapist

Heather completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2019 at Otago University and joined the Active Health team in early 2021. Heather has moved to Timaru with husband Brodie who works as a doctor at Timaru Hospital.  Heather comes from a large family in Auckland and enjoys cooking and also plays the harp!

Elizabeth  Ray – Staff Physiotherapist

Lizzy completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree at Otago University in 2020, and joined the Active Health team in 2021. She enjoys taking a holistic, collaborative and individualized approach to physiotherapy. In her spare time, Lizzy works as a freelance writer and enjoys spending far too much money on coffee and her collection of houseplants.

Sophie Ford – Staff Physiotherapist

Sophie joined us midway through 2021. She graduated in 2019 after completing her honours project on how physiotherapists are involved in concussion injury management. She worked her first 18 months in Dunedin Hospital where she particularly enjoyed treating orthopaedic and sport injury patients and this sparked her move to a private practice setting. 


Alex Binney – Occupational Therapist

Alex joined our team in 2020, after completing her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at Otago Polytechnic in 2019. Alex developed an interest in vocational rehabilitation early into her studies after having a practical fieldwork experience at the Tiwai aluminum smelter in invercargill. She is an empathetic person who likes to work collaboratively with clients to help them achieve the best outcomes when overcoming functional limitations. She enjoys creative hobbies such as painting, sculpting, and embroidery which provides her a background for thinking of creative solutions to problems.

Casey Belworthy – Administration/Receptionist

Casey is our second receptionist who you will find on the front desk at our Timaru Clinic. Casey comes from a background in hospitality so loves meeting and greeting our customers. Outside of work Casey is passionate about American Jazz Dancing and has had lessons from a young age.

Grace McGrath– Administration/Receptionist

Grace is our second receptionist on the front desk at in the Church Street clinic. Grace is co-director of her own food truck business, and as the events industry is on hiatus for a while she is enjoying her new customer-facing role with us. Graces favourite hobby is researching another holiday to the Cook Islands where she and her partner hope to live one day soon.

Karina Savage– Practice Manager

Karina joined our team in 2020 and is our Practice manager, overseeing the day to day running of Active Health. Karina worked as a receptionist at a physio practice 25 years ago and has done full circle back to the health world having worked in a variety of management roles in the interim including HR, Customer Service and Property Management. 

We are excited to have her on board with her goal to ensure Active Health offers an efficient service providing a fantastic experience for our clients. Outside of work, Karina enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 children and 4 year old grand-daughter.
